Infrastructure for control systems engineering

The Wilo-Foundation is actively committed to promoting science. In line with its regional responsibility, a particular focus is placed on the Dortmund region. At TU Dortmund University, the foundation supports not only through the award of scholarships, but also through targeted funding of scientific projects.

At the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, the foundation supported the Chair of Control Systems Engineering by financing infrastructure for its research activities in the field of “optimization and control of electric drive systems” over a period of three years (2016–2019). In doing so, the Wilo-Foundation enabled the provision of the necessary additional infrastructure and the development of a networked experimental system.

The Chair of Control Systems Engineering within the Institute of Robotics Research at TU Dortmund University was established in 2005 and is characterized by its strong focus on automation and robotics, particularly in the development of automated driving functions, collaborative robotics, and systems for human–machine interaction.

Through its commitment, the Wilo-Foundation contributes to the further development of Dortmund’s scientific landscape and supports forward-looking research projects that are of both local and global relevance.

Since its founding more than 55 years ago (1968), TU Dortmund University has developed a distinctive profile with 17 faculties spanning natural sciences and engineering as well as social and cultural sciences. The university has more than 32,400 students and around 6,600 staff members, including approximately 325 professors. Its teaching portfolio comprises around 80 degree programmes, including both traditional and innovative subjects, several unique courses of study, and a broad-based teacher education programme for all types of schools.
