Every two years, WorldSkills brings together young professionals from around the world for the international World Championship of Vocational Skills. In the discipline “Water Technology,” which is being held for the fourth time as an official skill in the Manufacturing and Engineering Technology category, emerging professionals from the water supply and wastewater sectors compete against each other. Water technicians play a key role in the operation, maintenance, and control of complex systems and therefore require in-depth knowledge of engineering, natural sciences, and environmental management.

Against the background of the internationally recognised standards of the German water sector, the German Association for Water, Wastewater and Waste (DWA), together with WorldSkills Germany, ADIRO, and other partners, is organising an international training camp at the German Centre of Excellence for Water Technology, funded by the Wilo-Foundation.

The aim of the project is to strengthen international knowledge exchange, sustainably qualify skilled professionals, and further develop the profession of “Water Technology” worldwide. The knowledge gained during the training camp is intended to be transferred by participants to their respective countries in order to establish stable training and qualification structures and to strengthen long-term participation in international vocational competitions.

By awarding travel scholarships to participants from Egypt, Kenya, and Namibia, the Wilo-Foundation supports international knowledge transfer and the training of future professionals in the field of water technology. The goal is to facilitate access to high-quality training formats for young talents and thereby strengthen the competencies needed for a sustainable and innovative water sector of the future.

Our funding partner

WorldSkills Germany e.V., based in Stuttgart, is the central organisation for international vocational skills competitions in Germany and is committed to promoting professional excellence, qualifications, and the visibility of vocational training occupations. The association coordinates the participation of young German professionals in national, European, and international competitions such as WorldSkills and EuroSkills, thereby contributing to the strengthening of vocational education and training.

In close cooperation with professional associations, educational institutions, and industry partners, WorldSkills Germany works to further develop and sustainably establish international standards in vocational qualification. In addition to preparing and supporting participants, knowledge transfer plays a key role: through training formats, networks, and international cooperation, the association supports the development of future-oriented professional profiles and promotes professional exchange across national borders.
