As the largest and most populous continent on Earth, Asia faces a particular challenge: its population has the lowest per-capita access to fresh water worldwide. Due to climate change and the worsening global water situation, water scarcity in Asia is increasingly moving into the focus of international attention.
Against this background, the Wilo-Foundation supported the exchange programme “Integrated Water Resources Management Experts Program in the Asia-Pacific Region” (IWRM). The programme was conducted for the second time in 2016 by the Korea Water Forum (KWF), Seoul, in cooperation with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), Gyeongbuk Province, the city of Andong and Andong National University.
The aim was to build on the successful World Water Forum (2015) in South Korea’s “water city” Andong and to foster exchange through a conference involving experts from academia, the water industry and politics from across the Asia-Pacific region. In addition, on the basis of the workshop, ongoing network meetings and further workshops were organised to continuously strengthen cooperation and the development of innovative solutions. A varied programme of excursions and cultural activities, offered by the city of Andong, rounded off the event.
