The Wilo‑Foundation supports two pioneering projects in Dortmund that combine environmental education, creativity and sustainable urban living. Its partner is the association Die Urbanisten e.V., which has been committed to fostering a future‑oriented and community‑based urban society since 2010.

Aquaponics: Circular Economy in Rombergpark

At the new education hub “School, Nature and Environment” in Rombergpark, a modern aquaponics system makes ecological interconnections tangible for around 13,500 children and young people every year.

The principle is based on a closed-loop system in which crops and edible fish grow together. The waste produced by the fish serves as nutrients for the plants, which in turn purify the water.

Installed in the foyer of the center, the system raises awareness among visitors of all ages of the importance of resource efficiency and the responsible use of water.

Here2Create: A Digital Home for Urban Changemakers

In addition to hands-on environmental education, the Wilo‑Foundation strengthens the digital visibility of sustainable initiatives. The Here2Create platform serves as a central hub for the creative and community‑building educational offers of Die Urbanisten.

With the Foundation’s support, a modern digital infrastructure has been established that

  • brings offers together: Educational workshops on urban gardening, crafts and sustainability can now be accessed centrally in one place.
  • facilitates knowledge transfer: Creative ideas for livable and sustainable urban development are shared and made accessible to others.
  • activates networks: The platform connects people who want to actively shape their city and creates space for joint learning and action.

Our funding partner

The Dortmund-based association Die Urbanisten e.V. has been committed to improving urban coexistence through innovative educational projects since 2010. With Here2Create, these offerings are brought together and presented on a modern website. The programmes are aimed at companies, educational institutions, private individuals and non-profit organisations. All formats are flexible in design, can be implemented both indoors and outdoors, and promote team spirit, creativity and awareness of sustainability.
