While France is struggling with high youth unemployment, many apprenticeship positions in Germany remain unfilled. The demand for cross-border mobility in the form of internships and exchanges is greater than ever. The German-French Vocational Training Day was initiated in 2014 by the German-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK, Paris/Berlin, and has since taken place annually in Paris. To this day, it is considered an important event in the German-French education sector—numerous representatives from politics, academia, education, and business from both countries are among the guests.

The aim of the conference, launched in 2014 by the German-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry, is to realize intensive cooperation between German and French stakeholders in vocational education and training. The goal is to concretize exchanges in the field of vocational training and to initiate binational education projects. Experts from politics, education, and business engage in various panel discussions on the changing nature of professions and the resulting challenges for vocational education and individual companies. Alongside other long-standing, renowned sponsors, the Wilo-Foundation also supported the German-French Vocational Training Day from 2015–2020 with financial contributions, in order to help promote exchange with neighboring France on the key issue of education.
