The Summer Music Academy (SMA) is a ten-day music festival that takes place every summer at Schloss Hundisburg and in the surrounding area. From 2017 to 2020, the Wilo-Foundation was the orchestra sponsor of the SMA, which offers excellence-level musical talent development for around 60 musicians from more than 20 nations.

Within the framework of the SMA, international young musical talents come together each summer to perform in a newly formed academy orchestra. The musicians are usually on the verge of their international breakthrough and represent all areas of music: jazz, chamber music and orchestral repertoire come together here.

Under the artistic direction of conductor Johannes Klumpp, the academy orchestra demonstrates its skills to the audience in several concerts. The concert formats range from the academy’s opening concert to discussion and promenade concerts and culminate in the final concerts in the castle barn, making the SMA a major cultural event for the entire Haldensleben region.

Over the three years of its support, the Wilo-Foundation also invited the “Deutschlandstipendium” scholarship holders of the University of Magdeburg as well as the START scholarship holders from Saxony-Anhalt to a guided tour of the castle and to the final concert. In this way, the students were able to experience their place of study as a cultural venue and were given the opportunity to participate in the Wilo-Foundation’s cultural promotion activities.
