More than 150 foundations are based in the Dortmund region – and the number keeps rising. Building networks between these foundations and enable them to exchange ideas and knowledge is the aim of the Dortmund Foundations Day.

The Dortmund Foundations Day, which was co-initiated in 2016 by the Wilo-Foundation, is a forum for urban society that enables foundations from Dortmund and the surrounding region to exchange information and experience about their funding activities and the impact of the projects they support. Together, they discuss and develop effective approaches and solutions for tackling social challenges. At the same time, the Dortmund Foundations Day provides a space where interested individuals can learn more about the foundations and their work.

The Dortmund Foundations Day, which takes place annually, also provides a festive setting for presenting the “Dortmund promotional award for foundations”. The prize recognises the outstanding achievements of foundations in Dortmund and supports exceptional citizens’ initiatives. Co-initiators and supporters of the Dortmund Foundations Day are the city of Dortmund, the Dortmund Economic Development Agency, the Dortmund savings bank, the Dortmund Foundation and the Federal Association of German Foundations.
