Nanhi Kali – an education project for girls in India
Life in the rural regions of India is harsh, especially for girls. The number of girls who drop out of school is extremely high.
The Nanhi Kali programme has been funded and carried out in cooperation with the K. C. Mahindra Education Trust and the Naandi Foundation since 2005. The main goal of the educational initiative is to enable young girls from the lowest social class to receive a good education at public schools and to try to ensure that they attend school for at least ten years.
Every year, 500 girls living in the surroundings of Chakan (25 km from Pune) are given an opportunity to attend one of 8 public schools, with the education initiative providing them with learning material, school uniforms, intensive support and tutoring in everyday school life.

The K. C. Mahindra Education Trust is a registered public charitable trust (est. 1953), with the Mahindra Group as its main sponsor. Naandi is one of the largest institutions in India’s social sector. We have been supporting the Nanhi Kali project in cooperation with the K. C. Mahindra Education Trust and the Naandi Foundation since 2005.
In the meantime, over 78,000 underprivileged girls have been able to attend school with the help of the Nanhi Kali project. For the implementation of the project, the K. C. Mahindra Education Trust works with 19 NGOs on site to achieve its educational objectives.
