The international classical music competition and festival in Romania

Cultural exchange is a vital component of congenial coexistence in Europe. Cross-border cultural projects such as the George Enescu Music Competition and the corresponding George Enescu Festival form an ideal framework for us to help strengthen intercultural dialogue. The festival looks back on an over 50-year-old tradition linked to its namesake, the famous composer George Enescu.

The George Enescu International Competition is the most prestigious classical music competition organized by Romania to attract attention on the international music scene. The winners of the competition (violin, cello, piano and composition) receive not only prize money but also worldwide promotion opportunities, including the possibility to perform the following year at the prestigious George Enescu Festival.

Over 300 young musicians from over 30 countries apply for the competition. Many of the events take place at the famous Romanian Athenaeum.
